About the Foundation
The Virginia Chamber Music Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in the summer of 2000 by cellist Raphael Bell and violinist Timothy Summers to present chamber music
concerts and musical education programs of the highest quality for the city of Charlottesville and surrounding areas.
Since the inaugural season of the
Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival
in the fall of 2000, the foundation has presented more than 50 concerts and school programs in the Charlottesville area.
In the coming years, the Foundation will present concerts not only in September, but throughout the year, with emphasis on the continual develoment of musical styles
through commissions, teaching, cooperation with local arts organizations, and improvisation. The Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival
will continue to be the centerpiece for the foundation, bringing artists from all over the world. However, in order to further foster the development
of musical knowledge for guest musicians and the broader community alike, the Foundation will be presenting concerts which will specifically serve
as a means to explore the relationships between new and old music, along with new and old media.
